This month’s Wood Connection craft is a a cute Valentine countdown block. We’ll move the clothespin from number to number along the string as the days to go by. A cute countdown is never a bad idea! Let’s get to it step by step.
What’s in your kit:
- 8×10 block
- Small finial
- Vinyl
- Heart vinyl (stickers)
- Paint
- Foam brush
- Bakers twine
- Nails
- Red ribbon
- Mini clothespin with heart
You will also need:
- Hammer
How to make it:
Step 1-Paint:
Start by painting the entire block black. Also paint the small finial black. Once you get the top painted you can use the hole for the finial to hold it while you paint it.
Step 2- Vinyl:
Once the paint is completely dry, place the vinyl. Make sure the tiny dots make it onto your wood, they will be the guide for the next step. If you’re new to vinyl, click HERE for a step by step.
Step 3- Nails:
This is where those tiny dots come in. Use the hammer and a nail to make a mark on each dot (just a couple taps with hammer.)
Then pull the nail up. It shouldn’t be difficult to pull up the nail since you only tapped enough to make a mark.
Now peel the tiny dot off and hammer the nail in. You will want to hammer it in about half way.
Step 4-String:
Last step is to tie the string. To get the string tight from one nail to the other, it might be helpful to wrap it around the nail once to hold the tension as you tie the knot around the nail.
Trim the ends of the string.
Peel and stick the hearts to the block, tie the ribbon around the finial, and clip on the clothespin!
All done and ready for the countdown!
