This Santa Christmas Countdown caught our eye the second we saw it! We are so excited to have it as one of our classes and kits for the Wood Connection this month. It’s fun to make, fun to use, and so crazy cute! We’ve got step by step instructions to make it as easy as possible. Let’s get to it!
What’s in your kit:
- Santa and over lay pieces
- Wood block
- ‘Days til Christmas’ vinyl
- Snowflake paper
- Number vinyl
- Black paint
- White paint
- Red paint
- Peach paint
- True Snow cream
- Wood glue
- Brushes
- Small black stickers for eyes
You will also need:
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Painter’s tape
- Popsicle stick
How to make it:
Step 1- Trace:
Start by tracing the mittens onto the paper. Make sure you trace them so Santa will have one right and one left hand. We traced on the back side of our paper. The paper is double sided, so of course you can choose whichever side you prefer for his mittens.
Next, set Santa’s hat brim and beard and mark where his face will be.
You will paint the peach color between those marks for his face.
Step 2- Paint:
Now paint the entire wood block red, also paint all of Santa except where his face will be and his boots.
Paint the square blocks white, as well as the hat brim, beard, and ball for the hat.
Once the red is dry, paint Santa’s face. Use painter’s tape to tape off his boots and paint them black. Also paint the back and edges of the mittens black.
Step 3- Glue:
Once all the paint is dry, it’s time glue the pieces in place. Use wood glue to glue the paper to the mittens. Then glue on the beard, hat brim, ball for hat, and mittens. Let dry.
Step 4- Vinyl:
While the glue is drying, place the vinyl. For the number blocks, use the top row of numbers on one block and the bottom row of numbers on the other block. The 6 with double as a 9.
Place the vinyl on the block too. If you’re new to vinyl click HERE for more detailed instructions.
Step 4 1/2 & 5- Eyes & True Snow:
Step 4 1/2 is to place the eyes, they are just peel and stick. You’ll want to get them on before the snow so you don’t smudge the snow trying to get them on.
Okay, the last step is the snow. We love this stuff! It adds that perfect detail to this Santa. It’s very easy to work with, just use a popsicle stick to scoop and swirl it around until your happy with it. It takes a while to dry so you have plenty of time to play with it.
Once you’re happy with the snow, let it dry untouched for about 24 hours.
Now have fun counting down the days!
