This cute jar of hearts Valentine string art is a perfect little craft for February without getting too crazy with the pink and red. We are not huge fans of some of the Valentine decor we see at the stores, we like it a little more simple; and we think this jar of hearts pulls it off pretty dang good. It’s even cute enough to leave up all year, not just for Valentine’s day if you wanted. We have made it super easy and fun to make too!
What’s in your kit:
- Wood block*
- Mason jar template
- Stain
- Brush
- Nails
- Hearts vinyl
You will also need:
- Hammer
- Elmers glue (tiny amount)
*If you purchased a kit without wood you will need a wood block approximately 6 in. by 7 in.
How to make it:
Step 1- Stain:
Stain the entire piece of wood. Start with the sides so you can rotate it around as you paint and then lay it flat to paint the front. Once the stain is dry, turn it over and stain the other side.
Step 2- Nails:
Center the template on your wood and hammer a nail on a dot at the top of the jar and a dot at the bottom of the jar. This will hold the template in place while you work.
Hammer in the nails about half way. A nail goes on every dot. We will use the numbers by each dot in the next step.
Step 3- String:
Here is where the numbers come in! Start at #1 and tie a double knot, then you will string around every nail following the numbers. It’s like a dot to dot for grown ups! For a more detailed step by step on stringing check out our Mason Jar String Art post HERE.
Step 3- Vinyl:
Next let’s get the hearts down! Peel away the white backing.
Place the hearts with the clear transfer tape onto the board, press well. Then carefully peel up the transfer tape leaving the hearts behind.
Step 4- Glue:
Finally, use a tiny bit of Elmers glue to attach the cut ends of the string to the outline string. Just put a small amount on your fingers and hold it on the string.
