Nothing says Spring quite like flowers! Which is why we love this fresh cut flowers spring craft. We also love the contrast of stain and white paint. It’s just clean and bright and classic. For this project we used the reverse vinyl technique - we’ll walk you through the whole process.
What’s in your kit:
- Fresh cut flowers vinyl
- Gel stain
- White paint
- Brushes
The wood for this project is 6×18 inches.
Step 1-Stain:
Start by staining the block. One light coat is plenty, then let it dry completely before moving on. Gel stain is amazing! It has no odor, dries quickly, and looks beautiful.
Step 2-Vinyl:
Once the stain is dry, place the vinyl. (If you are new to vinyl, click HERE to see full step by step instructions.)
When peeling away the transfer tape, we have found it works best to keep the tape close to the surface and roll it back at a steep angle. Work slowly to make sure none of the words pull up.
Now press the vinyl onto the wood again using a vinyl squeegee or credit card. We want the vinyl pressed really well to get nice clean lines when we pull it off.
Of course, you can keep the craft as it is with the stained block and white words if you choose.
Step 3-White paint:
Now time to paint the wood white. Paint carefully over the words making sure not to brush large amounts of paint into the vinyl.
We painted two coats. Make sure the first coat is totally dry before painting a second.
Step 4-Remove vinyl:
Once the white paint is dry, peel away the vinyl.
That’s it! We love the reverse vinyl technique! The stained lettering against the white is beautiful.
