This Believe Christmas sign is perfect for adding to the Christmas magic! The white against the buffalo plaid is irresistible! What’s the best part?! We have figured out a way to get the buffalo plaid look without taping and painting over and over. This sign is super easy, you’ll have it finished in no time!
Let’s get to the tutorial!
What’s in your kit:
- Believe vinyl
- Buffalo plaid vinyl
- Black paint
- Brush
- Wood block*
*If you ordered a kit without wood, you will need a block that is 18 inches by 6 inches. We used a 2×6, cut to 18 inches in length. Most hardware stores will even cut wood for you.
Step 1-Paint:
Start by painting the wood black. Paint the back and sides entirely. No need to paint the front, it will be covered with vinyl, but it’s a good idea to paint about an inch around all the edges in case the vinyl isn’t a perfect fit.
Step 2-Vinyl:
Once the paint is dry, it’s time for vinyl. This is the secret weapon for the buffalo plaid, it’s vinyl!! So much easier than taping and painting to get buffalo plaid. Okay, start by peeling a couple inches of the white backing away on one end.
Place the end you’ve peeled away on the edge of the block and slowly begin pulling the white backing away as you smooth the vinyl onto the wood.
Use a vinyl squeegee, a credit card, or even the side of a popsicle stick to press and smooth out any bubbles. Now place the Believe vinyl. Peel away the white backing, center the word on the block and press the word well.
Then carefully peel away the clear transfer tape, leaving the word on the block. It works best to peel the transfer tape at a steep angle. Work slowly, making sure the vinyl is not coming up with the transfer tape. For a more detailed tutorial about applying vinyl click HERE. That’s all there is to it!
