Hello! We’re excited to share this America the beautiful sign with you today! This is the craft we did for our Wood Connection class this month. (If you purchased a kit from us click HERE for a kit specific tutorial.) It’s definitely a big craft, but don’t let that intimidate you- it’s really easy. It makes a big impact wherever you put it in your home, perfect for summer decorating. Crafts with big impact that are also super easy are the best.
Let’s get to the tutorial!
What you need for the sign:
- Wood board (ours is 8″x 24″, it’s THIS one from the Wood Connection)
- Paint and brush
- Vinyl cutter or access to one
- ‘America the beautiful’ vinyl
- ‘est. 1776’ vinyl
- Star vinyl
What you need for the flag and stand:
- Candlestick (HERE)
- Small flag (we got ours from Walmart)
- Red bakers twine or ribbon
We used our Silhouette Cameo to design and cut our vinyl. We made the ‘America the beautiful’ and the ‘est. 1776’ in separate pieces, mostly to minimize waste on the vinyl.
How to make it:
Start by painting the board (and candlestick if you have it) white. We did two coats, feel free to paint it as much or as little as you like, just make sure each coat is dry before painting another.
Once the paint is completely dry, place the vinyl. Start with the ‘America the beautiful.’ Place it high on the board to make sure you leave space for the other pieces. Center the ‘est. 1776’ under the ‘America the beautiful.’ If you are new to vinyl, click HERE for detailed step by step instructions.
We didn’t bother with transfer tape on the stars, which makes them just peel and stick-literally like a sticker. Place two stars on both sides of the ‘est. 1776.’
Last, place the flag in the pre-drilled hole in the candlestick and tie the ribbon around it.
DONE! So easy! We’ve heard lots of feedback on this one - it’s a favorite for sure. We hope you love it too, and hope it helps your home feel festive and fun!
Wishing you a wonderful 4th of July!
