Halloween is one of our favorite holidays to decorate for! You can’t go wrong with a simple black and white sign to add to the stash of spooky cute decor. This super simple Halloween block sign is just the thing. And when we say super simple-we mean super simple! To make this craft however, you need access to a vinyl cutting machine. (We have the Silhouette Cameo and love it!)
If you have purchased a kit from us for this craft click HERE for a more kit specific tutorial.
Here’s what you need:
- Wood block
- Paint
- Foam brush
- Halloween designed vinyl
- Sanding block (optional)
How to make it:
Start with a simple wood block. Ours is a 2 x 8 board cut to 15 inches. Paint the block black. As always, we recommend painting the sides first then you can lay it flat to paint the front. When it’s dry, flip it over to paint the back. Paint one or two coats- we felt like one coat was plenty with black paint, but it’s totally up to you. Let the paint dry completely. If you want to sand the block for a more weathered look, now is the time to do it. Sanding once the vinyl is placed is possible, but much more difficult. We sanded all the edges as well as the front in places until we got the look we wanted.
Now for the vinyl:
We designed the “happy Halloween” phrase and cut it onto vinyl using our trusty Silhouette Cameo. (Of course, if you have a kit from us this is already done for you.) Weed the vinyl and apply transfer tape to the design.
Peel the vinyl (sticky side) away from the transfer paper backing.
Center the vinyl on the block and press it down. Carefully peel away the sticky sheet leaving the vinyl design behind. That’s all there is to it! Sure doesn’t take much to make a piece of wood super cute! 😉
