We shared this project over at The Ribbon Retreat last week and really love how it turned out! It is a no sew Candy Corn Banner! Yep-NO SEW! It’s made of felt, so it will never fray, it will last forever and it’s inexpensive too! And who can resist those cute fall colored candies? Whether you like to eat them or just decorate with them, candy corns are kind of a must have for Halloween. 😉
Let’s get started!
Here’s what you need:
- Heat’n’Bond
- Orange, yellow, and white felt
- Iron and ironing board
- Rotary cutter and mat
- Ribbon
- Scissors
Start by cutting identical pieces of Heat’n’Bond and white felt. Our candy corns are 6 inches tall, so we cut ours into strips 6 inches tall.
Now place the adhesive side of the Heat’n’Bond to one side of the felt (the paper liner should face up). Place and hold hot iron (no steam) on the paper for 2 seconds, repeat until the whole surface is bonded.
While that cools, make a candy corn template out of light cardboard, or card stock. Make the triangle using the same technique we used as kids making hearts, remember? — Fold the cardboard in half and draw the triangle line away from the fold, then cut to get a perfectly symmetrical triangle.
Place the template on the paper side of your bonded felt and trace. Then cut out the triangles.
Now use the template to make the colored candy corn pieces. Draw a straight line and cut according to the size you want of each color. We made the white (top) a little smaller than the orange and yellow.
Now use those templates to trace and cut the candy pieces.
Once you have the white, orange, and yellow pieces cut, peel off the paper from the Heat’n’Bond. Then place each colored piece over the top.
Iron for up to 10 seconds until all the pieces are bonded.
Now, trim down the sides of each triangle so they are perfectly matched.
Last, fold over the top and just cut a small slit on each side to thread the ribbon through.
All done and ready to hang!! Wouldn’t this be cute over the treat table at a party? Or strung across the mantle? Or doorway? There is always a place for a cute banner! 😉
