Enjoy the Ride- Scooter Craft

Today we’re sharing the step by step tutorial for the Enjoy the Ride Scooter craft class we just did.  This is an adorable scooter and block from The Wood Connection.  In case you haven’t heard, we teach two classes a month for The Wood Connection.  There’s still time to sign up for the American Fork location!  Click HERE for the class details. This baby has a lot of steps and we have it all broken down for you.  So let’s get to it!

Here’s what you need:

• Scooter with block and vinyl
• Gray, blue, yellow paper (all are the same style: pinstripes on one side, swirly’s on the other)
• Tiny flowers (ours are from Hobby Lobby)
• Paint, we used: Sea Foam, Straw, Tompte Red, Quaker Gray, Black, White
• Foam brushes
• Wood glue

Step 1:  Paint the scooter body blue (Sea Foam.)  Everything except the headlight, tail light, basket, wheels, seat, and handlebars is blue.  Feel free to tape parts off as desired.  You can see we have the seat taped off here. Also paint the two fenders blue.

Step 2:  Trace the front fender above the tire so you know how high to paint black.

Step 3:  Paint the seat, handlebars, and hubcaps gray.  Also paint the sides of the base block gray.

Step 4:  Paint the basket, the detached basket piece and the top of the base block yellow.

Step 5:  Paint the tires black.

Step 6:  Trace the fender pieces onto the blue paper.  Trace the seat onto gray paper.  Trace the basket onto yellow paper.  The seat is the most tricky to trace because there’s not a detached piece like the others.  Lay the scooter on the paper and just to do your best tracing the seat.

Step 7:  As long as the paint is dry at this point, place the vinyl on the front of the block.  

Step 8:  Use wood glue to attach the paper pieces to the fenders, and seat.

Step 9:  Paint the headlight, the flower part of the basket, and the wheels white.                                                               The wheels are the larger circles.  We know there’s lots of names and parts to the tires-haha!  So the tires (attached to the scooter) are black, the wheels (the larger wood circles) are white, and the hubcaps (the smaller wood circles are gray.) 🙂

Step 10:  Attach the yellow paper to the basket.

Step 11:  Tape off the taillight and paint it red.  Step 12:  Use a sanding block or small piece of sand paper to sand around the paper pieces, especially if they overhang at all.  Just sand the paper away so it’s a perfect fit.

Step 12:  Glue the basket piece, the wheels and hubcaps, and the fenders onto the scooter.

Step 14:  Touch up, touch up, touch up!  There will be touch ups.  🙂

Step 15:  Hot glue the flowers to the basket.  We love the 3D look of the flowers!Here’s a couple other views of it.  We didn’t take a picture of the back, but we just painted the entire back blue.

Now throw some confetti, or do a little dance because you’re done!  Whew-this was a fairly intense craft, right? But so worth it, it’s so stinkin’ cute!
