My family room has been pretty bare since we moved into our house 3 1/2 years ago. It is a big room with big walls and I am about the most indecisive person you will ever meet. My usual design process is slow and changing…. unless I have a deadline of some sort. That’s how this wall came to be UN bare-I was hosting a baby shower=I had me a deadline! I used 3 of my favorite sources for art, frames I had laying around and some super cool bike rims to get the look I was going for.
You can check out the tutorial for the giant chalkboard map HERE, and the plant pot HERE.
Earlier this year, Steff and I took a trip to Vegas and hit the swap meet while we were there. I got these 2 bike rims for $7 total. I knew I wanted to hang them on the wall and decided to leave them AS-IS. They hung very easy with just a large screw right in the center of the spokes-we put the screw in the wall then hung the rim on it. Perfect!
Now let’s talk about the art! I rummaged through my frame collection and framed some printables I love! First, the camera print. It’s a download from Caravanshoppe.com, I couldn’t live without it. Their whole site is packed with fabulous downloads! Next, bike print - it is from graphicsfairy.com. If you haven’t browsed around this site, you must! It’s full of amazing vintage art-love it!!
And finally my camper and truck art. These are free printables from one of my favorite blogs ever - The Handmade Home,thehandmadehome.net. She has the most amazing collection of freebies! I love, love her style! I printed them to 5×7’s and stuck them in a thrift store frame with some wrapping paper as the matte. Super simple and inexpensive. On a side note, I ALWAYS print things like this at an office supply store-the quality is so much better than a home printer. It’s only a couple bucks to print in color on card stock. Plus ink for home printers is so expensive! It feels cheaper to pay a couple bucks for better quality.
The yellow chair is from IKEA and the cool silver lamp is from a thrift store! My dad found it and picked it up for me to use as a photography light. Is it not perfect there?! It took me months to realize how cool it would look as a floor lamp, and now I love it! The two drawer dresser is also from the thrift store. It was in perfect condition! (Originally from IKEA) Steff has helped me move it all over my house until it ended up here and it’s just right. We keep blankets in it.
And there it is! Man I love a deadline. It’s for sure the quickest way for me to focus on one project. This wall makes me so happy! I need to have another party to motivate me to tackle a few other projects on my mind!

Thanks Ashley! We would love for you to steal the idea 😉
I love the bike rims as art! I may have to steal that idea. 🙂
